How to make this spicy McChicken at home

Start by slicing your chicken breast into two even fillets. This helps them cook faster and more evenly. Season both sides generously with the spice mix. Do not skip this step because this is where most of the flavor comes from.

In a separate bowl, mix your flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chilli powder, and baking powder. The baking powder is the little trick that gives you that crispy coating without deep frying.

Dip each chicken fillet into the whisked egg, letting the excess drip off. Then press it into the seasoned flour until well coated. Lightly spray with cooking oil to help it crisp up.

Cook the chicken in an air fryer or oven until golden and cooked through. While that is happening, mix your sauce ingredients in a small bowl until smooth.

Toast your brioche buns, spread the sauce, add lettuce, and place the crispy chicken on top. That is it. Simple and so satisfying.

Quick to make and perfect for serving

This recipe comes together in about 25 minutes from start to finish, which makes it perfect for busy weekdays or quick lunches.

Serve your spicy McChicken with a side of baked fries, a fresh salad, or even just on its own if you are keeping things light. It also works great as a meal prep option. Just make the chicken ahead and assemble when ready to eat.

Reasons you will love this recipe

  • High protein and keeps you full for hours
  • Lower in calories compared to takeout versions
  • Super easy to make with simple ingredients
  • Crispy texture without deep frying
  • Great for meal prep and busy schedules
  • Customizable spice level to suit your taste

Tips, swaps, and fun variations

If you want extra crispiness, double dip your chicken in egg and flour. It makes a noticeable difference.

You can swap the chicken breast for chicken thighs if you prefer a juicier texture. Just adjust cooking time slightly.

Not a fan of too much heat? Reduce the cayenne pepper or skip it completely. You can also add a slice of cheese for a more indulgent version or switch the sauce to a yogurt-based one for extra lightness.

Storage and meal prep made easy

Store cooked chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Keep the sauce separate for best results.

To reheat, pop the chicken back in the air fryer or oven for a few minutes to bring back the crispiness. Avoid microwaving if you can, as it softens the coating.

You can also freeze the cooked chicken for up to 1 month. Just reheat straight from frozen in the oven or air fryer.
