How to Make High Protein Chicken Gyros
Making these high protein chicken gyros is actually much easier than it looks. The process is simple and very forgiving.
Start by preparing the chicken marinade. In a bowl, combine the low fat Greek yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, coriander, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until you have a smooth, creamy marinade.

Add the thinly sliced chicken breast and coat it well. Let it sit while you prepare the other components so the flavors soak in.
Next, make the tzatziki sauce. In another bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, dill, lemon juice, and salt. Stir until creamy and set it aside in the fridge.

For the garlic flatbread, combine the flour and yogurt in a bowl and mix until a dough forms. Knead it lightly with your hands, then roll it out into a flat circle on a lightly floured surface.

Cook the flatbread in a hot pan for about 2 minutes on each side until lightly golden.
Now cook the chicken using your preferred method. You can bake it at 220°C for about 20 to 25 minutes, cook it in a pan, grill it, or use an air fryer.

Once the chicken is cooked, slice or shred it into bite sized pieces.
Spread some tzatziki on the flatbread, add tomato, onion, the juicy chicken, and finish with more sauce and fresh parsley. Wrap it up and enjoy.

How Long Does It Take + Serving Ideas
Try serving the chicken and toppings in a gyro bowl with rice or roasted potatoes, or slice the wrap in halves for a satisfying lunch. They also pair really well with a fresh cucumber salad or extra tzatziki on the side.
If you are meal prepping, you can even keep the chicken and toppings separate and assemble the wrap when you are ready to eat.

Tips, Variations, and Substitutions
A few simple tips will help make your high protein chicken gyros even better.
First, slice the chicken as thin as possible. Thin pieces cook faster and absorb more of the marinade flavor.
If your flatbread dough feels sticky, it is likely due to the moisture in the yogurt. Simply add a little extra flour until the dough becomes easier to handle.
You can also change the cooking method depending on what you prefer. Pan frying creates a nice caramelized texture, while air frying is the fastest option.
Variation ideas
- Turn it into a gyro bowl with rice or lettuce instead of flatbread
- Add lettuce or cucumber slices for extra crunch
- Use store bought flatbread or pita if you want an even quicker meal
The recipe is flexible, so feel free to adjust it based on what you have available.

Storage & Meal Prep
Store the cooked chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Keep the tzatziki sauce and toppings separate to maintain freshness.
To reheat, warm the chicken in a pan or microwave until heated through. Then assemble the wrap with fresh toppings and sauce.
If you want to prep ahead, you can also make the flatbread dough in advance and cook it fresh when ready to eat.
